The range of my sculpture
is constructed of various metals including stainless & galvanized
steel, aluminum, bronze, copper and brass screen, along with thin lead
sheet and wire. While figurative in nature, the work has implications
that take it beyond the human form both in scale and intent. The translucency
of the screen emphasizes the absence of the figure with a clearly "implied
presence" and creates a fresh approach to weightlessness. Humor is also
an integral part of this work as it expands the human form by means of
exaggerated scale and subjective context. My goal with this work is to
redefine the body's organic shape while maintaining an awareness of its
form and volume.
Over the last several
years, I have expanded the availability of my work to the public through
outdoor installations, most notably with site-specific pieces on the grounds
of the Decordova Museum in Lincoln, the Fuller Museum in Brockton, MA.
and in Deering Oaks Park, Portland, ME. It has given me an opportunity
to further explore my work in this large-scale environmental context and
contribute to a continuing dialogue with the surrounding communities.
I live and work in
the South End of Boston, having stayed on after attending the School of
the Museum of Fine Arts on scholarship. My recent work is shown frequently
in exhibitions at the Barbara Krakow Gallery in Boston and Boston Sculptors
at Chapel Gallery in Newton. I have participated in First Night Boston
for several years and installed temporary outdoor work around Boston with
Reclamation Artists. Over the last several years I have also shown frequently
in corporate settings such as The Prudential Tower Lobby, Office Environments
of Boston, and Boston Corporate Art. I have recently completed many public
and private commissions for both indoor and outdoor sites and have had
my work included in major collections such as Boston's Museum of Fine
Arts and Brandeis and Harvard Universities.
